We were very kindly sent a children’s cutlery set from Nana’s Manners to help Darian develop his eating and cutting technique using a knife and fork.
Nana’s Manners have developed their child sized knife and fork handles to help little ones learn the correct way to hold a knife and fork to effectively and efficiently cut their food and eat using them.
Darian has always struggled with traditional adult sized knives and forks as well as the typical smaller child sized versions available. He just didn’t seem to be able to grasp the correct technique no matter how much we tried to show him.
Nana’s Manners came to our rescue, they are shaped in such a way that encourages Darian to keep his fingers in the correct position, allowing him to then work on his cutting technique.
I have to say that since using Nana’s Manners at every meal, Darian’s holding position and cutting ability has developed no end.
He is now holding his cutlery in the correct way and is really doing well at cutting his food up by himself – giving him a great sense of independence.
The correct holding position was half the battle with cutting as he kept trying to put his arms up and cut in a way that was never going to work effectively when using traditional knives and forks.
Darian is so much more confident now when we eat out or have family come for dinner as he doesn’t need to ask for help – something he doesn’t like to do unless absolutely necessary.
My only wish is that we had them sooner, as I’m sure Darian would have learnt to hold his cutlery and cut his food alot earlier on – I will definitely be investing in a set for Adalena when she is ready to begin using cutlery.
Nana’s Manners cutlery is BPA free and must be washed by hand to maintain it’s finish.
The sets retail at £19.95 and come in 5 different colours so you are sure to find one to suit your little ones taste.
